0b05:17ba is referred to as a USB-N10 within ASUS's driver set - it is presumed to be for this dongle.

The driver set is for 81(88/92)cu based dongles, 8188cus is presumed to be used ??

The Asus USB-N10 Nano (easily mixed up with the Asus USB-N10 without the addition “Nano”)

has the USB ID 0b05:17ba
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0b05:17ba ASUSTek Computer, Inc.
and bases on the Realtek RTL8188CUS chipset.

In principle, this chipset is supported by the 8192cu kernel module. However, the USB ID of the stick

is not known to this driver and therefore the driver is not loaded automatically..

This can be corrected by the command:

echo 'install 8192cu modprobe --ignore-install 8192cu ; /bin/echo "0b05 17ba" > 
/sys/bus/usb/drivers/rtl8192cu/new_id' | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/8192cu.conf

Alternatively, a modified driver can be downloaded from GitHub, which already includes the USB ID.

Under Ubuntu the driver can be downloaded and installed by
sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-headers-$(uname -r) 
linux-headers-generic build-essential dkms git
git clone https://github.com/pvaret/rtl8192cu-fixes.git
sudo dkms add ./rtl8192cu-fixes
sudo dkms install 8192cu/1.9

An alternative might also be doing the following (suggested by the REAFME of rtl8192cu-fixes): Sometimes Network Manager also sets a device in a power-saving mode where it doesn't use enough power to connect. You can fix it by editing `/etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf` and setting `wifi.powersave` to 2. And then reboot.
