- NETGEAR Intros Retail DOCSIS 3.1 Router on BTR (July 11, 2017)
Netgear (NASDAQ:NTGR) has launched a DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem/router for retail purchase in-store or online. The Nighthawk X4S AC3200 WiFi Cable Modem Router Netgear C7800, which is certified by Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA), is available now at an MSRP of $399.99 in the United States. The C7800 combines a DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem and a dual-band wireless router. It's designed to provide aggregate WiFi speeds up to 3.2 Gbps for devices connecting over WiFi on a home network, with a quad-stream architecture to increase WiFi range using active antenna technology. "The industry-leading Nighthawk X4S AC3200 WiFi DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem Router offers the best combination of quad-stream WiFi with support for gigabit Internet cable speeds for blazing fast Internet for your connected home," said Sandeep Harpalani, senior director of product marketing for NETGEAR Connected Home. "This is the first third party DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem router certified by Comcast Xfinity for their network."
Features Include:
- Built-in CableLabs-certified DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem
- 2x2 OFDM/OFDMA in DOCSIS 3.1 and 32x8 channel bonding in DOCSIS 3.0 mode
- Simultaneous dual-band AC3200 WiFi for aggregate speeds up to 3.2 Gbps
- Dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, Beamforming+ technology for 2.4/5 GHz bands
- Four active antennas with a patent-pending design for enhancing weak signals and reducing interference
- Two USB 3.0 ports, Four GigE LAN ports, NETGEAR ReadySHARE USB port
- ReadySHARE Vault software for automatic PC backup to a USB hard drive connected to the router
- NETGEAR genie for installation, monitoring, control and repair of the home network
- NETGEAR has worked with Comcast on certification for other products as well.
At the International CES in Las Vegas in January, NETGEAR introduced two Comcast-approved retail modems,
- the Netgear CM1000 in DOCSIS 3.1 and the Netgear C7100V in DOCSIS 3.0.

- Arris (NASDAQ:ARRS) is holding a demonstration of "Extended Spectrum DOCSIS," a display proposing adjustments to the frequency of downstream signals to extend the capability of current HFC networks to deliver speeds in the 50+ Gbps range. The system proposes the use of a much wider spectrum for DOCSIS 3.1 systems while also using lower order modulations (and lower signal-to-noise ratios) to gain bitrate capacity with the same power budget.
- Broadcom (NASDAQ:BRCM) announced a DOCSIS-compatible 10G EPON residential gateway reference design for cable operators. The new gateway platform combines Broadcom's BCM55030, a 10G/10G EPON optical network unit (ONU) system-on-a-chip (SoC), with the company's BCM33843 DOCSIS 3.0 cable gateway device. The 10G EPON gateway adheres to the preliminary CableLabs DPoE 2.0 specification, which allows the PON gateway to look and function like a traditional DOCSIS gateway. Built-in 10G symmetric EPON WAN technology is intended to support multi-gigabit speeds.
- Intraway is demonstrating its IoT Middleware, which is designed to allow all types of connections between machines (M2M) to be activated, managed, and monetized using a centralized and scalable platform. The company is also demonstrating its Advanced Network Monitoring (ANM) solution, Real-Time Universal Service Activator (RTUSA), and TechWizard for in-home WiFi audits.
- STMicroelectronics (NYSE:STM) announced its STiD325 (codenamed Barcelona) DOCSIS 3.1 chipset for cable modems, EMTAs and gateways. Barcelona includes two 196 MHz OFDM downstream channels, 32 single-carrier DOCSIS 3.0 QAM downstream channels, two 96 MHz OFDM-A upstream channels, and eight single-carrier DOCSIS 3.0 QAM upstream channels. It also has pre-integrated RDK-B software, including DOCSIS and PacketCable stacks.
